HourWorld¬ World Clock 2.53 Read Me
Sep 9, 2001
What is the HourWorld¬ World Clock?
Time, here, there, and around the world.
Almanacs and planning.
Lighting from the sun and the moon.
Telephone calls at appropriate times.
Beauty and curiosity.
The HourWorld¬ world clock is a unique software program that doesn't fit into any traditional
software category, as you'll see for yourself. Started in 1994 as the WorldClock Desk Accessory,
rapidly increasing Macintosh speeds have enabled a variety of enhancements and new features not
practicable until recently. We welcome your support of this ongoing project via two registration
options.
What Have I Downloaded?
The accompanying software contains all the code and graphics of the full version of HourWorld¬,
but not all features are enabled without registration. As downloaded without registration, the program
runs as HourWorld¬ Lite. It works in any Power Macintosh, and is intended to meet the needs of
casual users located in or near major cities in the U.S. HourWorld¬ Lite presents a small world map
with sun and moon in a moving pattern of day, twilight, and night. Daylight blends into twilight and
darkness with geometric accuracy. A variety of screens show times around the world, sunrise and
sunset times, sun and moon calendars past and future, and even a sundial. Configuring
HourWorld¬ Lite is easy. Simply click on one of the clocks, scroll through the list to your city or
the nearest city, and make it your home location. The HourWorld¬ Lite software also contains
several demonstration features of the full HourWorld¬ world clock.
What Are The Benefits To Registering?
There are four operational modes of the HourWorld¬ software application distributed with
this read-me file. Registration enables additional features you may wish to use.
1) The Unregistered Lite mode (as downloaded) is for evaluation purposes only. The program
starts up with an "Agree" screen. You must agree to the conditions and accept the disclaimers to
use the software. The program provides a set of displays and functions that will meet the needs
and interests of many people just as it is, without upgrading. Clicking the size box in the upper
right corner of the screen gives demonstration views of the full program.
Five additional functions of the full HourWorld¬ program are included in the software, but are
not available without registering. They are: Almanac Printing, Large Display Options, Phone Call
Coordinator, Global Positioning System (GPS) functions, and Database Editing.
2) The Registered Lite mode (registration fee: $15.00). If you have evaluated HourWorld¬ Lite
favorably, and wish to continue using it, but do not need the additional features or larger sizes in
the full version, registering HourWorld¬ Lite will remove the startup "Agree" screen.
You'll be in our database, and eligible to upgrade later to the full version of HourWorld¬ for an
additional $15.00. You will also gain access to the registered user portion of our web site, and be
able to download upgrades when they become available.
3) The HourWorld¬ VGA program (registration fee: $29.95) adds the following additional
features not available in either version of HourWorld¬ Lite: 1) Large display option which fills a
standard 640 x 480 display, with 7 clocks instead of 5. 2) Almanac printing for any location and
date, by month or year. 3) Phone Call Coordinator screen for planning phone calls or other
events across multiple time zones. 4) GPS functions and compatibility through GPSy¬ from
Global Mapping Systems 5) An editable database. You can add or remove locations, or edit
information about locations. You will gain access to the registered user portion of our web site,
where the latest versions and documentation will be available for download.
4) The HourWorld¬ XGA program (registration fee: $34.95) provides the same functions
as HourWorld¬ VGA above, plus two larger maps and display sizes, optimized for screens with
800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 pixel resolutions or larger.
What If I Don't Have a Power Macintosh?
HourWorld¬ does an incredible amount of floating-point calculation in order to produce the
twilight displays, and requires the power and speed of a PowerPC processor to do it in a reasonable
time. Our earlier product, the WorldClock Desk Accessory, does much of what HourWorld¬ does,
and works in earlier 68020+ Macs.
We are working on HourWorld¬ for the Windows environment, but it is not available at this date.
Watch our web site for details.
